A BGMI stylish nick is ordinary text made of different characters, not a font setting. 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 in bold is four separate code points from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, so the look travels with the text when you paste it — which is also why the game can accept one character and refuse the next.
Battlegrounds Mobile India is published by Krafton specifically for players in India and launched on 2 July 2021. It is a separate game from PUBG Mobile, with its own account system, its own shop and its own penalties, so advice written for one does not automatically apply to the other. Which names BGMI penalises, and what the 90-day restriction is
BGMI penalises nicknames and clan names that are inappropriate — offensive, abusive, sexual, hateful or impersonating someone — and the restriction can last up to 90 days (checked 09/2026). That is the strictest name penalty among the big battle royale games on Indian phones, and it applies to clan names as well as personal names.
- Styling does not disguise a word. Swapping letters for lookalikes (𝓯, ᴜ, 0 for o) leaves the word readable to a filter that normalises text, and leaves it readable to the players who report it.
- Impersonation counts. Copying a streamer’s or esports player’s exact name, even with a different frame, is the kind of name that gets reported.
- The clan carries risk for everyone in it. A clan name is shown on every member’s profile, which is why the clan section below keeps tags short and neutral.
Every name on this page passed a filter that strips decoration and checks the letters underneath for adult, abusive, gambling and hateful words before it was published.
BGMI clan names and short clan tags
A good BGMI clan name is short, readable at a glance and safe for every member to carry, because the same name appears on all of their profiles. Keep the tag to a few letters, put decoration around it rather than inside it, and avoid anything a rival clan could report.
- Pick a core of three to five letters. SNPR, ROYL or AERO are easy to read in a lobby list. Small capitals (ꜱɴᴘʀ) give a styled look while staying in the Basic Multilingual Plane.
- Add one frame, not three. A single 〆 or 亗 either side reads as a clan mark; stacks of symbols push the real name out of view.
- Check the letters you need exist. Unicode has no small capital X, so ᴠᴏʀx ends in an ordinary x — a common surprise when styling clan tags.
- Write a welcome line for the clan bio. Bios tolerate longer decoration than the name itself:

Do special characters work in the BGMI name box?
Some do and some do not, and the size of a character in computer terms is a common reason. Classic decorations such as ༒, ☬ and ꧁ sit in Unicode’s Basic Multilingual Plane and take one UTF-16 unit each. Emoji and bold or script “math” letters sit outside it and take two units — a surrogate pair — so they use up a length limit twice as fast and are the first to be refused by stricter name boxes.

How to change your BGMI name, and what it costs
You change a BGMI name by using a Rename Card; there is no free settings box. Cards come from events and Elite Pass rewards, or from the shop — the price is set by the publisher, so check it on the purchase screen (checked 09/2026).
- Copy your finished name from this page first, so you paste rather than retype.
- Open your inventory and look for an unused Rename Card before visiting the shop.
- Use the card, paste the name, and read it in the preview before confirming.

How many characters can a BGMI name have?
Krafton does not publish a character limit, and guides disagree — some say 14, others 15 (checked 09/2026). Decorative characters count individually and emoji or bold letters may count double, so the only reliable test is pasting the exact name into the rename box.
Can I use the same stylish name in BGMI and PUBG Mobile?
You can try, but they are separate games with separate name checks and separate accounts. A name accepted in one may be taken or refused in the other.
What is a good BGMI name for a girl or a boy?
The vibe groups above work for anyone; soft frames like ʚ ɞ or ⋆˚࿔ read gentler, while rifle art and royal marks read bolder. Keep the core word short and pronounceable so squadmates can call you on voice chat.
Why does my stylish name show boxes for some players?
A box means that player’s phone has no font for that character. The name is intact; their device simply cannot draw it. CJK marks such as 亗 and rare scripts are the usual cause.
Will a styled name get my account banned?
Styling itself is not the problem — the words are. A clean name in fancy letters is fine; an offensive word in fancy letters is still an offensive name and can bring the up-to-90-day restriction.
